is one of the largest if not the largest stock photography site on the Internet. On iStockPhoto, you can search through millions of royalty-free images and photos. I have myself been using iStockPhoto to download many beautiful images, illustrations, flash animations and videos to decorate my blogs and websites. iStockPhoto stock photography website, enables photographers from all around the world to sell their artistic creations online on iStockPhoto.

On the Main page of iStockPhoto, you can find a search engine, which gives you the option to search the whole site for photos, illustrations, flash animations, high quality videos and audio files. You can pay and download them directly to your computer.



Buying Stock Photos
You can buy royalty-free stock images and photos in different sizes. Every size has its own price. The sizes are separated into seven sizes: x small, small, medium, large, x large, xx large and xxx large. IStockPhoto uses credit points as its currency. Each X amount of credits costs Y amount of money. For example, you can buy one 'x small' photo for one credit up to 28 credits for the 'xxx large' photographs. Consider that the prices may change, so in order to stay up to date with the latest prices, go to iStockPhoto website and find the prices at the middle section of the homepage.



At the top of the homepage, you can see the photo of the week and the contributor link and where he or she is from. You have several options to choose from before putting the text inside the search field and pressing the search button. You can choose what formats you want the search engine to return. You have a choice to choose between photos, illustrations, flash, video and audio check-boxes. On the right side, you can see a drop-down list, which enables you to sort the results by the following parameters: downloads (the number of times the specific media had been downloaded), age (how long the specific media appeared on iStockPhoto), contributor, rating (shows the highest rated media files first), size and title.

Advanced Search
Clicking the 'advanced search' link, will open an on-layer window with advanced parameters that you can adjust to fitting the results to your own liking and needs. You can choose to allow different shapes like vertical, horizontal and square. You can choose to find media files from a specific member name, by entering its name in the member name field. You can choose to filter out files by prices and sizes for each type of media file, like photographs, illustrations, flash, videos and audio files.

In iStockPhoto advanced search you can show and hide the front file details. You can even search media files by their dominant color, by providing a Hexadecimal quality you or by pressing a call Square on the simple web RGB HSV color ruler.
Of course you have many other options available, like searching by categories, site collections and decide how many results you can see per page. Pretty impressive isn't it?

So we have decided to try the search engine by entering the word 'business'. iStockPhoto search engine has an auto suggest option, which will suggest words and phrases as you start typing your key phrase. Clicking the search button have brought us to the results' page for the word 'business'. On the top part of iStockPhoto's search result page, you can see the number of search results, a thumbnail post gallery with basic information about each media file. Because we have decided to search all the media files, we've got plenty of results.



We start writing 'business' - The auto suggest feature

Of course it doesn't make sense in deciding which photo you want to download, when you see only thumbnails. By just putting your mouse cursor over a specific media file, a larger version of the photo, video or other type of media file would appear. When moving the mouse out from the thumbnail image, this pop-up layer will disappear. So it's pretty easy to go through a lot of images and decide which one fits you best. For every media file you can see what type it is a specific icon on the bottom lower side, the number of times that the media file has been downloaded, the serial number or identification number of the media file and a little icon 'Add to lightbox', and will soon explain about What a lightbox means in iStockPhoto.

iStockPhoto Lightboxes
When you register to iStockPhoto and become a member, you have the ability to save images into what called Lightboxes. Lightboxes are actually a folder or a container for your favorite files on iStockPhoto weight a title that you decide its name. What it means, that you can create as many lightboxes as you like, give it a name and later add files into it. Of course, this is only for managing your files, and you're not obligate to buy those files that you put inside the lightboxes, even though, that you can do that later.

Adding a File to a Lightbox
As we explained earlier, there is a special tiny icon which looks like a bulb with a plus sign on it. Clicking on the icon will show you an 'Add file to Lightbox' small floating window. In there you can select one of the lightboxes that you have created an add the specific file into that lightbox. If you haven't created a lightbox already, you can do that inside that window, by clicking the 'Create new Lightbox' link. When you click it, you'll see three sales for name, description and keywords. Feel in the appropriate title for the lightbox in the name section. Enter the description in the description section, and use keywords separated by commas, which will make it easy to locate files by searching your lightboxes. You can add as many files as you like to a lightbox, but keeping it small and well organized, but using more than one lightbox, would just make it easier for you to find files later that you want to purchase.

Adding a Page to Lightbox
On the top right of the search result pages, you can see the same bulb icon with a plus sign, with a text link on the right side of it which says 'Add page to Lightbox'. After clicking on the link, you will see the same window as you so before, when you choose to add one media file to a lightbox. The difference is that now you can add all the matching media files that you see on the current page search results to a lightbox of your choice. Of course, if you have decided to show 50 items in a page, choosing 'Add page to Lightbox', will add all the items to a lightbox of your choice.

Viewing and Managing Your Lightboxes
At the top of iStockPhoto website, in the blue section, you can see a link which says 'Lightboxes'. When you click on it, you will get to a specific page, that in there you can manage your lightboxes. Of course, you need to be register user in order to see this link and get access to this section. You can always create an account, by clicking a link which says 'Not a member ? Sign up', or by pressing a button, with the text 'Sign up' on the Main page of iStockPhoto.

On this page, you can see a list of your current lightboxes in iStockPhoto. A lightbox can store  as many images as you like. Also, a lightbox can be shared with others when it's public property is set to yes, or if you don't want to share it with others, just leave it as it is or change its public state to yes, will soon explain about to do this. In the list, you can see how many people viewed your lightbox (if it's public) and how many files each lightbox contains. By clicking the name of the lightbox you can manage its files. When you click the name of the lightbox, you will get to the search results page of that specific lightbox.

Now you have the option to view all your photos again and delete or remove an image from that specific lightbox collection, and this is done by clicking on the bulb icon waiting the minus sign. On the top right side of the page, you can see a link, with the text 'Edit this Lightbox'. By clicking on it, you will get to the edit page, in there you can rename the lightbox, check the property 'public' if you want it to be shared and viewed by others and uncheck it if you want it to become private. You can also see the description and the keyword's field which you can edit as you find appropriate for your needs. Click the link 'Back to Lightboxes' at the bottom left, to go back to your lightbox page.

On the top section of iStockPhoto page, you can see a link to your control panel. Into control panel, you have several options that control your account on iStockPhoto.
In the general section, you can find many properties that let you control your account.


Adult Content Filter - by default, iStockPhoto hide adult related content. So if you are searching for adult related content in iStockPhoto, and you ask yourself why can't you see adult related content? - all you have to do is to check the adult content filter, and now, when you search iStockPhoto, you will see adult related content.

You can also change the color scheme of iStockPhoto, and choose between seven different colors. Furthermore,, in my opinion, the blue one is the most beautiful one and each and stay like that, but you can change it if you like.

In the international section, you can choose the user interface language and choose between 12 different languages, including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, US English, UK English, polish and others. You can also change the language every page on iStockPhoto, which using it in the drop-down list on the top of each page. You also have the ability to choose the website currency and change it as you like.

In the modifications' section, you can choose which type e-mail messages you would like to receive. By default only the marketing offers are checked, but you can choose between e-mail newsletter, e-mail weekly tips and e-mail popular news.

In iStockPhoto you have a private mailbox, which you can receive messages and send messages to members on the site. Clicking the new message button will bring you to a page, where you can choose a member that you want to send a message to, choose the subject and create a letter and send it. You can also add folders and manage folders for your convenient.


iStockPhoto Community and Becoming a Seller
iStockPhoto.com also offers many options to build connections between members, and it's actually a community, where each member can create a blog post, subscribe to blogs, and members and manage its network connections.
