The Smallest and Lightest Full Frame Digital Camera
Leica camera AG announced on Wednesday 9 September 2009, about the new Leica M9 rangefinder full frame digital SLR on its M-mount. Many professional photographers will probably be very happy to hear about this new official announcement from Leica. Leica DSLR digital cameras are not for any photographer. Their equipment is a way ahead more expensive than other digital SLR cameras on the market today. Nevertheless, Leica is well known for its high-quality cameras and lenses, which some of the lenses are even being used with other digital SLR cameras like Panasonic DSLR cameras.
Leica M9 - Full Frame M-mount Rangefinder
The new Leica M9 is supposed to replace the older Leica M8 camera. Leica M9 incorporates a new full frame CCD with dimensions of 24 x 36mm and 18 megapixel sensor. If you compare Leica M9 versus Leica M8 camera, you can see a lot of improvements in every aspect. First of all, Leica incorporates two processors in order to take advantage of the high resolution the camera offers. On the Leica M8 there wasn't an option for exposure bracketing. However, on the Leica M9, exposure bracketing is available by using steps from 0.5 2.0 EV. The shutter speed was lowered in the Leica M9 from 1/800 second in the Leica M8 to 1/4000 sec in the Leica M9 camera. If you had the Leica M8, you were probably very disappointed not seeing a dedicated iso-button. However, in the Leica M9 rangefinder camera you can find a dedicated button for ISO settings. The back LCD of the Leica M9 stayed the same in comparison to the Leica M8 back LCD screen. By the way, Leica is the smallest and lightest digital SLR camera in the world!
The initial price of the Leica M9 camera is $6995 for the body only. When you look at the back side of the Leica M9 camera that was made in Germany, you can see on the right side five buttons for play, delete, ISO, info and set button. The 2 1/2 inches screen is pretty small from what we are used to from Nikon and Canon high-end digital SLR cameras nowadays. On the top right corner, you can see the menu button and underneath it, there is the navigation dial with four arrows and a center button. On the top left corner, there is the viewfinder which is a large and bright viewfinder with automatic parallax compensation. The viewfinder enlargement is 0.68x for all lenses.
Superb Build Quality
The build quality of Leica M9 full frame rangefinder SLR is superb.
