CameraLabs Review on Canon EOS 7D Semi-Pro DSLR

I was considering buying a new digital SLR camera and there were two cameras that I considered buying. The first camera was a Nikon D90 and the second one was a Canon EOS 7D camera. My father recommended me to buy and Nikon DSLR camera instead of Canon's. I was very confused first because both cameras are very good, and I was waiting for more reviews about the Canon EOS 7D camera, in order to decide which one to buy and redeem myself from this misery.

Camera Labs website is one of my favorite digital photography sites. It is one of my trusted and more reliable pre-purchasing websites, and I am visiting this website every time that I want to read reviews about photography equipment. On November 2009, Gordon Laing (the editor camera labs) has reviewed the Canon EOS 7D camera. So let's take a look what Gordon Laing thinks about this new semi-pro DSLR.

CameraLabs.com EOS 7D Video Review by Gordon Laing:

First of all, you should know that the Canon EOS 7D camera is not the full frame DSLR, even though that it only has one digit name. Canon has released this new digital SLR camera two month ago, and it wants it to fit in a specific market niche just before the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and author the Canon EOS 50D. What it means, that the Canon EOS 7D will not replace the 50D camera, and you can still find it available on the local camera shop.

Because I already know about the specific issues with the Canon EOS 7D camera and already reviewed it in one of my posts, let's jump right on to the result's page of the camera lens Canon EOS 7D review page. The editor of camera labs.com data straight comparison between three cameras: Canon EOS 7D versus Canon EOS 50D Mark II versus Canon EOS 50D, in order to compare it one against each other and see all the perform in real life situations shooting in JPEG mode.

By observing the photographs myself, I can clearly see that the EOS 5D mark II has an advantage in terms of resolution. The cropped image that was taken in iso-100 was clearly sharper than the other two. When compared the Canon EOS 7D JPEG output (Canon EF 24-105mm IS lens) against the Nikon D300S JPEG output (Nikkor DX 16-85mm V), you can see that the Canon EOS 7D is capturing more detail than the D300S. By observing the photographs myself, I think that the Nikon D300S images looked better in terms of colors and resolution, but this is only my observation.

In terms of noise in high ISO settings, you can see that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II leads the pack with beautiful and almost noise free up to 3200 ISO (very impressive!). The Canon EOS 7D also produced very good results, but you can clearly see that the Mark II output was much better. Just to let you know that 5D Mark II is a full frame SLR camera, and this explains. Why do performance of the camera in high ISO settings is so good.
When comparing the Canon EOS 7D and the Nikon D300S one versus the other, you can see that they both have similar noise characteristics.
