Canon EF-S 10-22mm Ultra-Wide Angle Lens Reviews

I was looking towards buying a new ultra wide angle lens for Canon cropped sensor body (ASP-C). I've been searching for an affordable but high optical quality lens. On November 2004 Canon released an ultra-wide zoom lens for its EF-S DSLRs. The EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens is supposed to be a very high quality lens, which will enable many amateur photographers to enjoy taking wide angle photographs. Of course there are other solutions, I mean other more expensive solutions by buying one of Canon's L lenses, but for me, it wasn't an option.

Of course the downside of using this lens, is that it is only compatible to APS-C EOS digital SLR cameras and not for a full frame digital SLR camera from Canon. It means that when you upgrade to a full frame camera in the future, you won't be able to use this lens on a full frame body camera, so take that into consideration.

Gordon Laing Canon 10-22mm Video Review:

After reading a review on photozone.de about the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, I saw that the MTF resolution results were very good intellect best. This lens is not the sharpest lens ever made by Canon, but it provides a very good balance between price and performance, and for many amateur photographers these would probably be the only also wide angle lens they can afford.
I've been watching some sample pictures taken with that auto wide angle lens, to just see how it performs in real-life situations. The images looked sharp with high contrast and beautiful colors as expected. Even though that the build quality is not a top-notch in comparison to other Canon ultra wide angle L lenses, but again, you're not paying a premium price for it.

I've read another review on luminous-landscape.com website about the Canon EF-S 10-22mm Ultra-Wide angle lens. The website compared the Canon's against the Sigma 12-24mm, and you can clearly see that the Canon 10-22mm outperforms the Sigma by a large margin.

After that, I went to cameraLabs.com to read the review about the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM written by Gordon Laing, to see he has anything to say about this lens. Clicking the verdict link, Golden Laing said that in practice the Canon EF-S 10-22mm performs very well, especially considering its extreme coverage. It compared this wide angle lens directly with the Canon's EF-S 18-55mm and EF 17-85mm lenses, and the 10-22mm outperforms those two lenses in terms of center sharpness and corner sharpness. The geometry results were also very impressive, considering this is an auto wide angle zoom lens, which in many times sufferers from significant the barrel distortion.

Even the 17-40mm f/4L lens showed a considerably worse distortion and light fall-off than the Canon EF-S 10-22mm ultra-wide lens. So this is a great option for photographers who want to buy an affordable and high optical quality auto wide angle interchangeable lens for Canon mount.

Now to Bob Atkins photography website, and let's read his review about the Canon EF-S 10-22/3.5-4.5 USB Lens. I will summarize it for you. Bob Atkins thinks that the overall performance of this lens is very good, it is a well-built and has a fast and silent focusing. Its final conclusion is that you cannot get a better super wide zoom lens from Canon.

Buy This Lens!
As you can see many reviews have praised this wide angle lens, and as you can see that this a recommended lens on every review. If you're on a budget, and you want to buy a new wide angle lens, you should seriously consider purchasing this lens, because there's nothing like it on the Canon range and even on Nikon's range of auto wide angle lenses.
