Geotagging pictures with Canon EOS 7D - How To?

I was looking to buy the Canon EOS 7D camera because of its new HD video capability, but I also needed a support for geotagging for my pictures. I have been reading on the Internet that the Nikon D90 for example can accept the Nikon GP-1 unit device, which is cheap and does the job for geotagging you images. The problem for me is that in order to get a geotagging capability on the Canon EOS 7D, I think you should buy the grip and a bluetooth GPS device, that in a whole it would cost you around a $1000 instead of $200 on the Nikon side.

I wanted to hear whether you have any idea on a geotagging solution for the Canon EOS 7D, because I need a solution ASAP. What are the geotagging options for the Canon EOS 7D and if I decide to pay an extra for the GPS solution, what kind of equipment do I need to buy in order to geotag my pictures.

For me that best solution is to buy the Canon EOS 7D because I must have a very goold video HD capabilities and a geotagging solution including the large range of Canon's EF/EF-S lenses. Please advice on any solution regarding geo-tagging pictures with Canon EOS 7D.

  1. I have seen a third party device that looks like the GP-1. I suggest a visit to a major store rather than searching online.

  2. If you do mind doing some post processing try this software made by Red Hen Systems which will allow you to quickly geotag images and video if you have a valid track log.
