Why Professional Photographer Buy Expesive DSLRs?

As an amateur photographer I wanted to know is there a particular reason why professional photographers choose to buy the most expensive DSLR camera, can they just be satisfied with the semiprofessional camera?

If you do the comparison between several DSLR cameras, both professional and enthusiast cameras, you have probably seen that the semiprofessional cameras are very close in their specifications to do professional DSLR cameras. So why exactly, professional photographers spend so much money on the most expensive equipment available?

First of all, you should know that camera manufacturers like Sony, Nikon and Canon, price their DSLR cameras differently for different clients. So of course there is a reason why specific camera costs more than another camera. In professional DSLR cameras you can find the latest technologies in digital photography, including a better and more advanced sensor, faster bursting mode, a better viewfinder, better build quality Weather seals against harsh environments and much more.

So as we start discussing about white professional photographers choose to buy the most expensive equipment, you should consider the fact, that you cannot price all DSLR cameras at the same price. It is not stupid to say so, but you need to understand that when you build a specific camera for a specific customer target, you can't just build another camera, probably a more sophisticated one, and price it very close to the first camera. If you do so, you will have two products that will compete against each other for the same market spot and this will be a waste of money.

I'm not a professional photographer, I know that a professional photographer needs a specific equipment that will give him the best tool for expressing his creativity. Of course if you do a comparison between the cheapest DSLR camera we have today, and put it against an excellent film camera, you will probably see that entry-level DSLR camera can bring much more control and features in comparison to the latest film camera. However, it doesn't mean that professional photographers are spoiled. It just means that we've got more sophisticated tools, which will give professional photographers the ability to catch of that specific photograph that want to.

However, in some cases, and I was just thinking, there many amateur photographers who cannot afford to buy a pricey DSLR camera, and they choose to buy an amateur camera like the Canon 40d, for example. If you look on Flickr, SmugMug, Pbase or other photo sharing websites, you can see some amazing images taken by amateur photographers with entry-level DSLR cameras. So if amateur photographers can take amazing photographs with a simple and more basic equipment, why can't professional photographers can just buy an entry-level DSLR camera instead of a DSLR camera that costs much more?

The answer for that is that they sure can. Some professional photographers are not buying their equipment in the store like most of us. Many of them are getting there equipment from the company they are working for. To make it clearer, let's take for example the sports photographer on a soccer field.

Sports photographers need a fast camera. 10 years ago many soccer sports photographers had a field camera, which could shoot one picture at a time. You just can't compare it to what we have today, where professional photographers can buy a professional DSLR camera which will let them shoot in 10 frames per second. And he doesn't mean that we haven't seen some great images of soccer players 10 years ago. All it means, that professional photographer has a more creative tool that will help him catch the exactly image you wanted to without messing it in the field.

I can give you another example. Some sports photographers need to have a WiFi connectivity, when they shoot inside a soccer stadium. Many newspapers and magazine companies higher professional photographers to provide them some exclusive shots in a specific soccer game. The company gives them the right equipment, including a WiFi receiver for the camera, so the company can get a specific photo, few seconds after the photograph was taken. If you buy an entry-level DSLR camera, you probably won't be able to use a WiFi antenna which your camera. And there is a for that is that most entry-level photographers do not need this equipment, and therefore, camera manufacturers only make those products for their professional DSLR cameras alone.

If you're an amateur photographer, who wants to upgrade its equipment for a more advanced and professional equipment and use a WiFi receiver with you DSLR camera, those companies know that you will pay much more for a more advanced tool. So it is actually a money-making machine. It is all about being profitable like any other business. You can't have it all for low price, you just can't. Of course it is possible to create a WiFi transmitter to go with entry-level DSLR cameras, but no company will do it, at least not now.

As you can see there are many reasons why professional photographers spend more money on the more expensive it photographic equipment. Camera manufacturers like Nikon and Canon, know how to get more money from professional photographers, because this is where the money lies.
