AS the rumors about a new Canon 60D getting more and more dominant on the web, I have decided to contribute my opinion about the upcoming release of the Canon EOS 60D. Canon 50D is a very successful DSLR camera, and many amateur and enthusiast photographers have bought this great DSLR when it first released up to now. But before any Canon camera that suppose to be released, Canon probably see a drop in sales, as photographers are waiting for new models to appear and make a decision based on new Canon DSLR models.
The Canon 60D is a camera that some photographers say that it won't be a big step over the 50D, and some say that Canon has to make a more dramatic step in order to prevent photographers to buy the Nikon D90, and perhaps wait for the Nikon D90 replacement. Nikon has done a fantastic job on the Nikon D90 and the Nikon D300s. there are some photographers who first opted to purchase the Nikon D90, and have decided to buy the D300s instead. The same happens to customers who want to but the T2i (550D), but some of them are waiting also for the release of the new Canon 60D. If the 60D will present some significant improvements, there are many photographers who will skip the affordable Canon 550D (which is a wonderful piece of photographic equipment, and got great review on dpreview.com) and choose the 60D instead.
So what Canon need to add to convince customers to but the more expensive Canon 60D over the Canon 550D, convince 50D owners to upgrade, and also create a new "revolutionary" and "competitive" model that will make photographers think twice before they go and buy the Nikon D90 or its soon to be released replacement (Nikon D90s?).
As you can see, there is a lot at stake here, and I am pretty sure that Canon known that, and they will be presenting us with some very significant improvements when they announce the Canon EOS 60D (hopefully at the end of this month).
Canon 60D specs and release date
This is what photographers from all over the world want to know. What are the new specs of the Canon 60D and when it will be announced. Why examining Canon rumors announcement dates and specs [CR2] for the Canon 60D, we are probably looking at 9-point AF system, 18-megapixel CMOS sensor (maybe a new developed one), 98% viewfinder coverage, weather sealed and maybe, just maybe, a DIGIC V image processing chip.
Regarding the announcement and release date of the Canon 60D, we are talking about August 2010. So many Canon photographers are staying put, not making any fast decisions on which DSLR to purchase, and just sit in front of their laptop computers and browsing through Canon rumors site. There is nothing else to do but wait.
So the question (when the Canon 60D will finally be released) is probably whether you should wait for the new Nikon D90 replacement or choose between the Nikon D90 or the Canon 60D. I think that Canon will present improvement in the HD video specs, and I am pretty sure that we will see a dedicated button for the video on the back of the camera. Forget about inner-camera image stabilization and a 7D like body construction and ergonomics, the improvements will be mostly on the fps, video, focus system and viewfinder. Some people say that the Canon 60D will be very close to the 7D in terms of specifications, and the HD video will be greatly improved.
Some suggesting a new grip and longer battery life, and I am pretty sure that this is what Canon will be adding while announcing the Canon EOS 60D camera. So rumors are nice, and what they give is eventually an evaluation of the release date of Canon DSLR cameras, but nothing that you should count on. After all, it doesn't matter what you read on Canon rumors websites, you gonna still wait until Canon announces the Canon 60D and its specifications.
For gadget freaks (I am one of them I guess), any new camera announcement, especially from Canon, its a big reason to celebrate. New Canon 60D sample pictures, reviews, hand-on reviews, lots of image quality comparisons, people eager to get more information by posting millions of questions about the Canon 60D all over photography forums, photographers who are bashing their heads against the wall, deciding which camera to buy and so on... and on..., until they decide.
We all love to talk about cameras, and for professional photographers this is kind of a joke, after all, if you need a camera today, go and buy one and start shooting photographs. I have the same problem myself when Canon or Nikon, are coming close to the end of their product cycle. In those times, I just try to find something else to do. I am in the worst position, because I have sold all my Canon gear a year ago, and now I want to buy a new DSLR camera and lenses, and this nightmare starts all over again.
The Canon 60D will probably be a Camera that you cannot resist. It has to have something unique about it, something "more" than what the Canon EOS 7D has, if not, there many photographers who will probably pay "a little bit" more to buy the 7D that proved to be a magnificent DSLR camera. Other will probably decide to pass and buy a cheaper DSLR camera like the Canon 550D (T2i) and invest more money on better Canon lenses (maybe a 'L' professional grade lens).
Decision, Decisions, I know, it is really hard. Buy I think that because we are so close to the announcement of the Canon 60D, you should probably wait about a month or so, who knows, maybe Canon will announce the date of the release and the new specification tomorrow. There is nothing more frustrating then looking back, after you spend your money, and see a new model that is better in any aspects then you current gear. Furthermore, buying a camera an see the prices going down a week after (damn, I hate when it happens).
So hang on guys, the announcement will come very soon (maybe it already has, wow, I must visit a rumor site to find out LOL).
Update (July 20, 2010): After doing some Canon 60D search in Google ('Now' in search preferences ), I've visited DigitalRev blog post, in which there you can find that today Canon has suppose to announce the 50D successor, but apparently only new Canon PIXMA printers where announced (PIXMA MG5270, MG5170, MP497, MP287 and PIXMA iP4870) on the 20-Jul-2010 Canon press release.
DigitalRev suggest that the Canon 60D announcement will take place on 2nd-3rd September 2010 in Canon Expo 2010 in New York. It its true, more waiting for us.
Update (Augusst 13, 2010): Are these real Canon 60D pictures?
Canon 60D announcement will take place on tomorrow or the day after tomorrow? Will the price of Canon 50D decrease soon?
