Sony NEX-VG10 - Interchangeable Lens HD Handycam Camcorder

I wrote few articles about HD Videos in DSLR Cameras, Canon DSLR HD Video Shootout and in there I explained the advantages of shooting HD videos with a large ASP-C or FF CCD sensor, compared to video cameras (even professional ones) with smaller CCD sensor. Even the new Sony NEX-5 camera can shoot HD videos over its ASP-C size sensor. But now it seems that Sony wants to take that feature into the next level, by unveiling the Sony NEX-VG10 E-mount HD camcorder.

from NEXLens

The Sony NEX-VG10 is the first Handycam® hybrid camcorder which can take E-mount interchangeable lenses. Yes, the same lenses that the Sony NEX-5 accepts. Sony NEX-VG10 Handycam® camcorder is armed with a large Sony Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor, measuring 23.4 x 15.6 mm with 14.2 MP. As the NEX-5 digital camera, the NEX-VG10 are compatible with A-mount lenses using a special adapter.

The NEX-VG10 can shoot HD videos in 1920 x 1080i and 1440 x 1080i resolutions in 59.94 fps in the North American models, and 50 fps in the European models. The Sony NEX-VG10 comes with a E18-200m F3.5-6.3 OSS lens as a kit lens. Besides HD videos, this Handycam® camcorder can capture still images in 14MP (3:2) and 12MP (16:9) resolutions. As the NEX-5, the camera doesn't offer a built in image stabilization, and the optical stabilization (Optical SteadyShot) mechanical elements are inside the lens itself.

NEX-VG10 allows you to shoot see the scene using the electronic viewfinder, which is 0.43" XtraFine TruBlack LCD with 921,000 dots and also through the 3" XtraFine TruBlack LCD monitor with 921,000 dots. With Quad Capsule Spatial Array stereo mic, it allows you to enjoy crystal clear audio along with your videos. You can shoot AVCHD™ video at up to 24Mbps at full resolution (1920x1080/60i). It is a fairly compact camcorder (85 x 130 x 223 mm, without the lens), taking into consideration the fact that it has a large sensor to go with it.

The Sony NEX-VG10 record movies and images on Memory Stick Pro Duo, Pro-HD Duo and SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. It operated on NP-FV70 Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery (1650 mAh). The battery will allows you to shoot videos up to 330 min.

The Sony NEX-VG10 comes with Sony Vegas® Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 video editing software included free of charge, so you can easily edit you videos and share them on DVD or Blu-ray disc without hassle.

This is just a tip of the ice of what Sony NEX-VG10 is capable of, and I highly recommend visiting Sony's website for more information about that truly unique digital camcorder. The camera retails prices is $1999.99 according to SonyStyle.com website.
