Canon EOS 60D is the newest digital camera from Canon. 60D was announced on Thursday, 26 August 2010. By looking at the specs, you can see that It features 1080p Full HD progressive (1920 x 1080) movie recording at 29.97/30p, 25 and 23.976 fps/24p).
The first 60D sample video is of sea waves at sunset. You can watch it at 240p/360p/480p and 720p resolutions.
The second 60d sample movie is one of the most popular 60D movies on YoutTube. It was filmed by professional Canon photographer for Canon Europe YouTube channel. It shows the great colors that the 60D can capture. By looking at the video, you can see that it was taken in 24p.
The thirds sample movie was filmed with Canon 60D at Full HD 1080p resolution at 25p (progressive). In the video you can see a press conference with Samuel Eto soccer player. I really likes the quality of this video, which really shows how good the 60D full HD 1080p really is.
The forth movie is another 60D 1080p HD movie. It is probably taken in 24p or 25p, because you can see the slight blur (choppy) when the photographers pans the camera horizontally from side to side. It seams like it was show handheld, but with IS on.
The fifth Canon 60D movie/short movie sample was filmed at deep night. It was filmed at 1080p/25 fps with RODE 2 microphone for high quality sound. The best resolution right now for this professional video is 480p. The editor of the video mentioned that he will upload a 1080p version soon.
you can double click the movie to see it in full screen (you probably already new that, right?).
Usually shortly after a new Canon digital SLR camera comes out, we can see new short films, which was filmed with it. You can clearly see why cinematographers prefer Canon digital SLR cameras for filming short films. The image quality is very high, and as for today, Canon is the leader in the 1080p HD DSLR category. I think that Sony is almost equal in quality, if not the same. We should also mention, that Sony A55, NEX-5 and other Sony's interchangeable lens' digital cameras, all shoot 1080p HD movies at 1080p/60i. The sensor captures HD movies at 30p, but it wraps it in 60i container. It means that when imported to Sony Vegas or After Effects Timeline, you can see that the video editing software will recognize it as 30p.
Many photographers were quite upset, when they have noticed that there is no 24p option in the Sony A55 & A33. If you want to get 24p, you need to downgrade the video from 60i to 24p.
Canon continues its tradition of very high quality HD digital SLR cameras. I am sure that the overall video quality is on par with Canon 5D Mark II & Canon EOS 7D.
these YouTube videos look terrible because they are higly compressed. You'd do better to link to them on Vimeo or a downloadable original version.
ReplyDeleteI second that. I am looking for raw footage from a 60d to see how well it does a 3d cam track, and I cant do that off youtube footage because of the compression....
