Nikon D3100 Movie Samples with various Nikon Lenses

Wondered how good is the HD 1080p video quality of Nikon D3100 new dSLR camera? - Well, I have found a YouTube video called "Colorful Moments", that shows the video quality. You can see a series of short videos taken with the Nikon D3100 with the following NIKKOR lenses:

  • AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G
  • AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G
  • AF-S DX 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G
  • AF-S DX Micro 85mm f/3.5G VR
  • AF DX Fisheye 10.5mm f/2.8G
  • AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR
By just watching the Nikon D3100 movie samples in HD (D-Movie function), it seems that it is a very capable little DSLR entry-level camera. The colors are saturates, but kept in the right balance. We will probably see more Nikon D3100 HD video samples from users very soon.

Nikon D3100 camera can shoot 1080p HD movies (D-Movie) with Subject-tracking AF, using face detection technology to continuously focus on the main subject. You have four AF modes to choose from:. Normal-area AF, Wide-area AF, Face-priority AF and the new Subject-tracking AF. The Subject-tracking AF allows photographers to keep track on the moving subject, even when it gets out of the frame and comes back. It seems that the HD video quality has improved over previous cameras. I think that its probably because of the new EXPEED 2 imaging processor and the new DX-format 14.2MP CMOS image sensor  that comes with the Nikon D3100.

Furthermore, Nikon has also introduces 4 new lenses:
  1. Nikon 85mm f/1.4G prime lens
  2. Nikon 24-120mm f/4 G ED VR lens
  3. Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G ED VR lens
  4. Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.36 G ED VR lens
I am sure that many photographers will want to search for Nikon D3100 vs D90, or vs. D5000/D3000. I think that we will need to wait to professional reviews to find out more. Overall, seems like a real gem.

    1. I recently bought the D3100 and very satisfied with the pictures. However, for the video, I can't seem to play it on my computer. What program should you run them on? (sorry for asking, I am not a techy person)

When I load the video on my computer, it opens up with Quicktime but it does not play properly.

      Any suggestions?

    4. Okey! viewing a HD video in your computer you need to have a HD graphic card to view and appreciate the beauty of 1080p. Otherwise, without the HD graphic card that installed in your computer will result to analog format. Hope that this will help solving the issue of HD viewing.

    11. When shooting a movie, can you also take pictures at the same time while it continues recording the movie?
