| Olympus M.ZUIKO® DIGITAL ED 75-300 mm F4.8-6.7 Micro Four Thirds Ultra-Zoom lens |
Olympus has released the M.Zuiko Digital ED 75-300mm F/4.8-6.7 lens. The NEW Micro Four Thirds mount compatible lens, joins the already growing collection of Micro Four Thirds lenses. The new M.Zuiko lens is equivalent to 35mm standard 150mm-600mm focal length. It is claimed to be the World's smallest and also lightest 600mm (35mm equivalent) ultra-telezoom lens available. This is one of the advantages of he Micro Four Thirds system. You can attach it to Olympus PEN compact (EVIL) digital cameras, which have 2x cropped factor.
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75-300mm 1:4.8-6.7 lens can be attached to Micro Four Thirds digital cameras. When attached to Olympus PEN E-P1 or E-P2, you get a compact and lightweight travel digital camera. Portability is one of the main reasons why photographers have chosen the Micro Four Thirds digital cameras. Mirrorless digital cameras are grabbing larger market share every year, biting some market share from the DSLR market.
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75-300mm Micro Four Thirds lens is very compact (70 x 116mm) and weights just 430g. The new M.ZUIKO lens contains 2 ED elements and 3 HR (Highly Refractive) lenses, to reduce flare and ghosting, and help capture highly detailed contrasty images. Olympus has already a wide & exotic variety of excellent Micro Four Thirds Lenses, including ultra-wide angle, normal, and telephoto-zoom prime and zoom lenses.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 is constructed of 18 elements in 13 groups and 7 rounded blades. The new M.Zuiko lens is digitally and mechanically optimized for both stills and video photography and comes in both black and silver colors. The lens enjoys very fast and silent focusing system, that will mostly be needed when shooting HD movies. Olympus calls it "MSC", which means "Movie & Still Compatible" lens.
It is great to see that Panasonic and Lecia entered the Micro Four Thirds market, offering their own compatible collection of Micro Four Thirds lenses. There is not doubt that the new 75-300mm lens will look great on PEN digital cameras. We have already seen how a large lens (Sony 18-200mm) looks on the Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3 EVIL cameras, well.. huge. But lets now forget that the Sony NEX digital cameras utilized an ASP-C sensor, while the PEN cameras are using a smaller sensor (17.3 x 13.0 mm active area). Even so, Olympus has proven that the PEN digital cameras can produce very high image quality, despite the fact that they use a smaller sensor.
The reason why so many photographers but the Micro Four Thirds digital cameras, itws because the compact size and high image quality. Nikon and Canon, both without EVIL cameras. However, as the demand for EVIL cameras and lenses grows, it's time for Canon and Nikon to make their move towards the mirrorless market.
Overall, I think that the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 is a great addition to the Micro Four Thirds system. Travel lenses where always been my favorite ones. Portability is name of the game here, and I am sure that this Travel ultra-telephoto zoom lens, will be one of Olympus most favorites.
