Sony NEX-5 Mirrorless Camera, a Good Alternative to a DSLR?

Sony NEX-5 Mirrorless digital camera
Very popular among hobbyist
photographers
BusinessWorld.com has posted it own review about the Sony NEX-5 camera. Not that I am a fan of business website camera review, but it unbiased reviews are always welcomed. The review about the Sony NEX-5 starts with a very important question: "IS THERE a compact digital camera out there that’s as good as a professional DSLR?". Everyone wants to know if the EVIL/Mirrorless cameras can be a real competition to DSLR cameras.
Japan 2010 market share figures prove that the mirroless cameras are grabbing very impressive market share from the DSLR market segment. It seems that there is a place for new kind of compact mirrorless cameras with large sensor.

Compact digicams are favorable among hobbyists and amateur photographers, looking for a small camera to take everywhere. Of course the problem with today's compact cameras, is that their image quality is not 'good enough' for many photographers. Until now, the only option to enjoy high image quality, was to purchase an entry level DSLR camera, which was bulkier and more expensive than conventional consumer digicams. The advantage of large sensor is well known; Shallow depth-of-field, less noise in low light shooting and better color accuracy because of its large pixels.
Sony is not the first one to introduce mirrorless cameras. Olympus and Panasonic have introduces some very successful cameras of their own, but Sony wanted to innovate and grab some of the mirrorless market share. Business World Online has recommended the Sony NEX-5 for everyone who search for a DSLR image quality camera with a compact body. However, in the same breath it says that it will probably won't be their recommendation for photographers who are into DSLR cameras.

If you have read my Japan 2010 market share post, you can clearly see that there is a wide demand for mirrorless cameras, and the market is accepting this innovation with open arms, and wallets. Happy shopping.
