4/10 say a Mobile Device replaced the need for a Digital Camera

According to a survey conducted by Prosper Mobile Insights™, four out of ten smartphone/tablet users say that their mobile device replaced the need for a digital camera and 34.2% say that their mobile device replaced the need for a video camera. I've talked about this subject as part of many posts which I've wrote about point-and-shoot cameras. The thing is that now we have those numbers instead of just speculations and market analysis predictions.

If we look into the near future, mobile cameras will continue to improve, and many people just don't care about those unique features that are found on P&S cameras and not on mobile phone cameras. The most important thing is portability, easy-of-use, apps and online connectivity. It seems that many people just don't care that their camera doesn't have a 35x optical zoom - they just don't want to carry two devices. In fact, they don't need too.  A mobile phone camera can really serve all of their needs as hobbyist photographers. I think that the Mirrorless market should worry about it too, int the long run.

That's why so many companies work hard on developing apps and SaaS solution for where people can store and share images online. That's where the money is.
