Fujifilm unleashed the FinePix F600 EXR with GPS, 1080p and Landmark Navigator

Today, 11 August 2011, Fujifilm has release the FinePix F600 EXR compact digital travel camera. This new camera comes with a 24-260mm 15x zoom lens, a back-illuminated EXR CMOSE sensor, GPS, 1080p40 Full HD recording and Raw capabilities for squeezing out the maximum details from your images. There are many enthusiast photographers that already have a DSLR camera, and prefer carrying a smart compact travel camera when traveling abroad. Having a Raw option will certainly give this new camera an edge.

Fujifilm F600 EXR employs a custom designed ½” 16 megapixel EXR CMOS sensor. The new sensor can improve image quality due to its improved light sensitivity. This camera works hand-in-hand with this sensor's advanced capabilities to elevate the image quality in different lighting conditions.

The sensor has several states: EXR HR for High Resolution, EXR DR for improved dynamic range  and EXR SN for improved signal to noise.  You can choose either modes to improve the image quality in various lighting conditions. The other option is to set this on 'auto' and let the camera decide which one is the most appropriate for the current scene. This is a technology that FujiFilm is very proud of, and for a good reason. It has been proven to produce great results.

As an enthusiast photographer, I really like shooting both with a DSLR camera and a point-and-shoot, especially when I am traveling abroad. The problem with today's super-zoom cameras is usually the image quality. Not that it's not good, but it's not great either.  We can see that as hardware components get cheaper, camera vendors utilizes advanced technologies, even in the more affordable models. Still, there are many digital cameras without a BSI-CMOS sensor. This technology really give a camera an edge over one without this technology, and the 3-option EXR dynamic sensor utilization is really a welcome feature in this model.

As I mentioned earlier, the Fujifilm FinePiex F600 EXR comes with a built-in GPS device. The GPS is used to automate the process of geo-tagging in-camera, without the need for an external device, a mobile phone or an external dedicated GPS device.

The F600 utilizes the GPS Landmark Navigator on the new FinePix F600 EXR camera. This new software that is built-in the camera, utilizes a huge database of popular and famous locations all around the globe. That means that if you are traveling abroad and want to capture photos of the popular landmarks, just ask your camera where it is.  The location of these sites will be presented on the LCD and will show the distance and relative position to where you are now.

Photos can be later on attached to Google maps, where you can see all the pictures on your travel log on a map. The built-in GPS attaches the location coordinates inside each image file so they can be later utilized by third party software and online services.

So lets see what else the F600 EXR got (specs):
