After viewing sample images taken with the Sony NEX-5N, I can definitely say that we have a winner here. Nothing has made me ready for the images posted on eoshd.com and on stevehuggphoto.com.
The first comparison was posted on imaging-resource.com, but I saw the comparison shots eoshd.com. The comparison shows the image quality of five cameras: Canon 5DMKII, Sony A77, NEX-5N, Panasonic GH2 and Canon EOD 60D. There are shown side by side, so you can really see how each camera deals with noise at ISO12800.
The Sony NEX-5N just blows away the other cameras without leaving any doubt which camera is the best performer. The Sony NEX-5N even triumph the Canon 5D MKII which is a full frame camera, although a bit old now, still, it's an astonishing piece of achievement.
The thing is that not everything green in Sony's yard so it seems. The Sony A77 24.3MP sensor didn't yield the same results. Considering the resolution of the sensor, the image quality is very good, but unfortunately, it doesn't come close to the 5N one. When I talk about the image quality of the NEX-5N, I am referring to the contrast, details and the dynamic range. Even if we still don't have any lab-test review, we cannot overlook how good the NEX-5N image quality is.
I thought that we should wait for the Nikon D800 in order to see a camera that is capable of delivering very clean results at such high-ISO, but Sony made that possible with the NEX-5N, right here, right now. Listen, I'm not comparing the NEX-5N vs Nikon D3s, all I say is that from what we see, the results are mind blowing.
Steve Huff did his own field review about the Sony NEX-5N. You don't need to be a professional photographer nor a genius to see that the image quality rocks! - The details, colors, contrast and noise, everything just make me want to buy this camera right now. On of the things that limits me as a photographer is that I want to shoot in low-light, but I don't want to use flash sometimes. There are times that I just want to bump up the ISO and take some low-light images at slow speed (cannot afford ultra-fast glass). With my Nikon D3100 and the current lenses that I own, it's kind of a problem. Ther noise is relatively low, but it's far away from satisfying me.
Oh, I just wanted to add a comparison video that compares the GH2 vs NEX-5N in high ISO. Tell me what do your think about the image quality as well. thanks.
The Sony NEX-5N is a next generation digital camera no doubt about it, at least when it comes to image quality. Sony has done wise choosing to utilize a lower resolution sensor with the 5N, instead of putting the NEX-7 sensor.
I am still in shock. I want you guys to check out the image quality yourself and tell me what you think.

I watched the video and actually don't see what's so special about the 5N. Yes, it's brighter but the frames from the GH2 looks much sharper to me. It's almost like the 5N is never in focus?
